Keep Yourself Updated

What can I say? I didn’t see it coming, and it happened at the worst possible time. Last month during my holiday, I was preparing to enter a 10 day silent meditation retreat which meant 10 days of no communication or technology at all. And just a couple hours beforehand I found out that my website had been hacked. There was nothing I could do about it but simply accept that it had to be taken care of upon my return to the “real” world.

It only got worse when I heard from people afterwards that my emails arrived in their junk folders with Google having labeled them as suspicious. And if anyone did have a look at my website it would welcome them with a pop-up window mentioning it wouldn’t be advisable to continue on it.

As you all know I am an acupuncturist and healer, and far from anything IT-related! I called up my hosting service who tried to explain but couldn’t, and finally my web developers cleared it up- the reason behind the whole debacle was that I had never updated the software and plug-ins, and as a result my website became weaker and more vulnerable to malicious attacks out there.

Thankfully, it’s all up to date, cleaned up, and fully healthy now (big shout out to Stella Design who helped me out!!)- and from here on rest assured I’ll be onto it… checking on the state of my website on a regular basis!

But there was an interesting lesson in it that I think we all can relate to.

Up until it happened I was blissfully unaware that my site needed continuous work. It wasn’t until I encountered the problem that I had to educate myself and take care of the root cause of the problem, and just as importantly- prevent new ones from arising.

Too often we too are unaware of our own health problems as they slowly arise, weakening our immune system and progressively limiting our potential and quality of life overall.

The beauty of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it helps us determine the subtlest of imbalances, before they progress into more harmful issues that are far more difficult to deal with. There is no need to wait until you feel your state of wellbeing is severely impacted. We don’t need to be sick to seek out treatment, or to wait until we run ourselves to the ground before we go about improving our state of wellbeing.

I am a huge fan of maintenance. How could we ever be “done”, as long as we keep on living? How could the answers you’ve received in the past for a good and healthy life not become outdated as you keep evolving and growing? Nothing is static. Everything changes, all the time. And this isn’t just related to ageing. Ideas, perceptions, and school of thoughts become outdated as our ways of living and being evolve. Think about it in terms of expansion. A sense of “constraint” is a common sign that our energy isn’t flowing freely and is getting stuck somewhere. We each need to generate a greater flow of energy to channel in the right direction internally (to stay healthy) and externally (to adapt to a forever changing, challenging environment).

We can’t ever be “fixed”. Terms such as “balancing” and “harmonising” in respect to our overall wellbeing make far more sense- after all we live, we grow, we change. The universe will present more and more opportunities for growth, and most of the time it will be unexpected. Receiving assistance helps you support your physical performance, mental function and emotional balance- for a more meaningful and holistic relationship, with others and yourself. In essence we live to learn and learn to live 🙂

So keep your software and plug-ins updated, on all levels! 😉 Listen to subtle disruptions, and don’t become complacent. After all, ignorance doesn’t stay a blissful state for very long!
